Thank you to Mrs. Beckstein for planning our party today. It was jam packed full of SPOOKTACULAR FUN! I love the owl and coffee gift basket that was given to me by our class too. I look forward to brewing some coffee after a long day of having fun with the kiddos.
Please watch the video created by Cali and Jackson today after the party!
Our Fall party is coming up soon. Mark your calendars for Friday, October 26th from 11:50-12:50. Our room parent has placed envelopes inside your child’s planner. If you can contribute to food and crafts for the party she has included an envelope. You can return it to school and I’ll be sure she gets it in time to purchase all of the party items. This is strictly a donation and just give what you can or disregard it if you can’t donate at this time. All of the children will be included in the SPOOKTACULAR party. Parents are invited so I hope you can attend.
Here's a peek at the 321 Summarizing strategy that some of the students mention in the "Thursday Letter". It is a great way to reflect on what has just been read in one of the content areas.
3- Identify 3 important ________________ you learned in the lesson.
2- List 2 __________________from the lesson.
1- State 1 ______________________ from the lesson.
As you can see, the social studies lesson above was about immigration in Florida. The 321 strategy helped the students to sort out the important information. They will be better able to recall the information and build on it with the next lesson. We will be using the strategy often in our notebooks for the content areas of science and social studies as well as applying in our reading of any non-fiction material.
I was honored yesterday at our faculty meeting as Teacher of the Year! I was thrilled to be selected by the staff here at Indialantic Elementary. What an honor especially since I'm surrounding by the most amazing and professional teachers that I've ever worked with. Mrs. Fry came in to take some photos to be placed in a video for the school board and I wanted to share them with you. Enjoy!
Spelling tests will be due on Thursday this week since there is no school on Friday. The math extra credit project that was due on October 12th has been extended to Monday, October 15th. We will have a math test on Topic 3 on Thursday of next week if you want to review over the weekend.
Box tops are due by October 18th so if you have some at home please send them in so our class can win.
Next week I'm doing a lesson on synonyms. The students are making SYNONYM BUNS with words for a fun hands on way to remember them and use them in their writing. I would like to serve them cinnamon buns too just to make it fun for them. If you are willing to make some nice warm cinnamon buns please let me know.
Mr. S will be teaching for me on Thursday. My daughter qualified for the county swim meet competition for Mel High and I will be at the meet with her all day on Thursday. Keep your fingers crossed for her. It's her first big meet and she just began swimming competitively this year. I'm such a proud mommy and very embarrassing when I cheer her on! She thought she was safe since I would normally be at work. Deep down I know she really wants me there.
October 31st we will dress like scarecrows. Students may wear jeans, plaid shirts, and boots. This will be a fun way to celebrate Fall. Our class celebration will be on October 26th at 12:00. Our room parent will be contacting parents to help out with supplies and food very soon.
The students will be presenting our new IPADS at the PTSO meeting on Tuesday, October 9th in the cafeteria. I was asked to speak to the PTSO about how we are using the new IPADS in our 4th grade classrooms. After thinking about it I decided that the better way to present this was to bring the class along to show our parents first hand the new and exciting things they are able to do now. Each student selected an app to demonstrate so if your free to drop in we would love for you to stop by. I'm turning the tables and having them do the teaching. Maybe I can have a cup of coffee and learn a thing or two from them. This would be a great way to support our PTSO and see what your kids are doing in our classroom. I hope you can make it.
Just a reminder that tomorrow morning is the Cloister's garage sale beginning at 8:00 a.m. I go every year to replenish books for our class library. This is the perfect way to add some great literature for little money. If you see some of your child's favorite books will you please think of our class and maybe purchase a few extras? I would really appreciate it and it benefits our classroom in countless ways for years to come. Have a happy weekend!
I’m working with students in class in creating a class project to take
them through the steps of the scientific method. As homework this week I’m requiring
students to research the parts of a lima bean plant, how plants grow in soil,
and how plants grow in water (hydroponics). They can copy diagrams and take
notes, as well as print information at home to bring to class. Many of the students
have amazing background knowledge in the area of plants and germination already.
Students will share the data in class next week and I’ll show them how to summarize
the information they gather. Students should bring the information they collect
to class to share on October 9th. Our class project should be
complete by October 18th. This should give them plenty of time to
move forward with projects of their own if they choose to do a project.
Remember their projects are not due until the first week of December.
Parents please use the information contained in the Science Fair Packet for reference. Everything you need to know is included as well as a suggested timeline. Click on the link below to go to the page. The Science Fair booklet is on the bottom of the page.
