At Indialantic Elementary thoughts of helping others in need is a tradition of our holiday. This year the plight of the coastal New Jersey residents, victims of the powerful Hurricane Sandy, is on our minds. There are some similiarities in our communites. Most obvious is the fact that we know hurricanes and the damage they do. Through our teacher community we learned of a school in Monmouth, New Jersey which experienced heavy flooding that destroyed books and materials, along with damage to buildings. Our school is adopting Monmouth Beach School to assist in replacing the damaged supplies and library books that are parts of the teachers' collections and not replaced through school district insurance. Other beach schools are joining the effort to restore classroom materials. Informtion came out through Mrs. Jones, our Guidance Counselor and our PTO. In our classrroom, room mothers are providing a coin jar for change from the students and anyone who wants to give. Indialantic is always generous, and I know we will join in the effort to help. We have all seen how small donations can grow to accomplish a lot when everyone is involved in some way. Our Room Moms are standing by to wotk with PTO and help us with our role in the process.

Thank you for sending in flowers for our flower dissection today. We had a blast cutting them apart to identify the different parts we've been learning about. Please take a minute to watch the videos that we made today. Thank you to Jane, Cali, Jack and Gwen for helping to make them possible. Nice work of editing everyone!

Our newest member of the Rocket Math Club to finish all of his multiplication facts.
Our guest blogger will now tell you about Rocket Math:
I like how you get to practice your multiplication. I can actually see how much I know too. I felt extraordinary wearing my X all day and to actually finish it! Good luck to my friends I hope you get the X too.
Visit www.multiplication.com for math practice at home. Please go on this site and log in 20 minutes this week and write it in your planner with a parent signature. Learning multiplication facts can be fun with the games on this site. My favorite is the Dirty Diaper Derby.
CONGRATULATIONS TO RAAHIL! HE WAS THE FIRST STUDENT TO PASS ALL OF OUR ROCKET MATH MULTIPLICATION FACTS.
I asked Raahil to be our guest blogger and tell you a bit more about Rocket Math.
Rocket math is fun and challenging because you get timed for 1 minute and you have to finish a certain amount of multiplication problems. My goal was 54 and I had to get 54 questions right to pass but if I didn't I would have to do that level again and again until I passed. I was the first one to finish all levels from A to W.
We teach AMAZING 6th graders at our school. Our hope is that this BLOG will keep both parents and students up to date on the latest in 6th grade. Please feel free to contact us if you have any questions. We're looking forward to a great year with your child.
